How to get a Spray Tan before your Wedding

Vendor Spotlight: Looking for that sun kissed look without really having to sweat hours in the sun before your next big event? HoneyKiss has you covered! We were able to connect with Owner, Stephanie Sears and found out the best ways to prep for a spray tan and how to make sure it lasts and looks flawless!

How far in advance should Brides spray tan?

We recommend scheduling two tans before your wedding day 1. Schedule a bridal trial no later than 2 weeks before your wedding, especially if you have never had a spray tan before. That can give you an idea of what the color will look like on the big day! 2. For the wedding, sometime in the 1-3 day window before the event is the best time. We recommend against booking on the day of your rehearsal, as that day typically isn’t as relaxing as you planned and you’re running around doing last minute things. The last thing you should have to worry about is ruining a spray tan!

How far out should you book your appointment?

As soon as you know any significant dates, get them on the books! We book up extremely quickly. When booking individual appointments, you can schedule online up to 5 months in advance. For dates later than that or for any group sprays, please reach out to us individually.

What should I wear?

Whatever you like. You can be fully nude or wear a tank top and shorts. Our solutions should not stain your clothing, so you’re free to wear your own clothing. We also offer disposable strapless bras and disposable thongs if you so choose. Our policy does not allow men to go fully nude. We’ll go over things like what your dress looks like, etc. to ensure you won’t have any visible tan lines.

How long does the spray tan last?

All spray tans are different. Our solutions don’t contain any drying ingredients like alcohols, just aloe and other moisturizing ingredients. Because of that, you should get at least 6-10 days out of a tan before you notice any sort of significant fading. Certain areas of the body that are washed more frequently will fade more quickly.

Will it come off on my dress?

If you have taken a proper shower and gotten all of the bronzers off after the spray, it should absolutely not come off on your dress. After our spray tans, nothing is left on your skin anymore. Your skin is literally just stained brown. When the tan fades or comes off is when your skin cells exfoliate off. Unless you have an extremely tight corset boning or tight material rubbing against your skin all night, it shouldn’t be a problem. We have done thousands of brides and none have ever reported color on their dress.

Do you recommend grooms doing it as well?

YES. 30% of our clients are men. Even though their faces are the only thing exposed, light color on both of you makes a world of difference in photos. It’s usually easy to convince your groom to book if you’re going on your honeymoon right away and you tell him we can contour some abs. 😉

Can you workout after?

Immediately after, no. You are required to stay away from any sort of moisture for 5 hours after your appointment in order to let the active ingredient do its thing. Working out in the days after the tan is alright, although you may notice the tan come off quicker around areas where you’re wearing tight clothing while sweating (think sports bra straps, etc.)

Could you do a group at one time?

We do! We offer mobile party packages, where we will come to you for any number of people. In order for the discount to go into effect, you have to have at least 5 people being sprayed total. The bride/host would then be free, and everyone else’s tans or applicable travel are discounted by $5 each.

Do you travel all over Indy?

We offer both in studio and mobile spray tanning. Our studio is located in Carmel and is open 5 days a week.  In addition to that we offer mobile spray tanning 3 days a week. Additional travel fees apply for certain locations, but we travel wherever clients may need us. We’ve even had brides in surrounding states book us to come out for groups before their wedding day.

And the biggest question …

Will it come off on my dress?

If you have taken a proper shower and gotten all of the bronzers off after the spray, it should absolutely not come off on your dress. After our spray tans, nothing is left on your skin anymore. Your skin is literally just stained brown. When the tan fades or comes off is when your skin cells exfoliate off.
